DS Universe
DS Volume on a white NinjaTrader chart: a rally with its volume as a low strip along the bottom of the price panel, quiet bars faint and heavy bars solid, and a thin line at each bar's typical volume for that minute.

Chart pictures are illustrations of the software, not a performance record. Futures trading carries substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor, and hypothetical or simulated results have inherent limitations that may differ materially from live trading.

Why you need it

The native VOL indicator tells you how many contracts traded, not whether that is a lot: 600 NQ contracts in a minute is a quiet minute at the 09:30 open and an eruption at 8 in the evening. DS Volume weighs every bar against the same minutes of the previous 20 sessions and against how hard the market is running today, so a heavy bar looks heavy, a quiet one looks quiet, and the rare bar that is unusual even for today is marked as a spike.

How it works

Volume, against what's normal now.

DS Volume draws the chart's volume as a low strip along the bottom of the price panel, behind the candles, with no panel of its own. Every completed 1-minute bar is filed by its exchange trading day and its minute of the day in the instrument's own time zone, and each chart bar's window is compared with the same clock window on the previous 20 qualifying sessions, so it reads minute, second, tick, range, volume, Renko and Heiken Ashi charts alike. The typical volume is the median and the spread the median absolute deviation, both on a log scale, so one FOMC day or one half-day holiday cannot move either; sessions that traded far less than the rest are left out automatically, and the history is requested in the background merged across contract rolls. A running tempo (a 30-minute half-life, reset every session) measures how far today has run above or below its baseline.

A bar 2 robust standard deviations below or above the clock baseline is QUIET or HEAVY; a SPIKE stands 3.5 or more above it once the tempo is taken out (the Iglewicz–Hoaglin outlier rule, not a tuned setting), is decided when its bar closes, and spikes within 15 minutes of each other are one burst, labelled and alerted once. A typical-volume line, a live-pace cap on the developing bar, a now / tempo / session caption and hover details sit on the strip, and five values are published for the Strategy Builder and the Market Analyzer. Day, week, month and year charts are read against the previous 20 bars. Every bar is compared only with sessions before its own, so history reads exactly as it did live: it does not repaint. It reads participation, not direction. Free for everyone.

Before you buy

What it needs, where it runs, and what it is not.

Where it runs

Any market whose feed reports volumeBuilt on NQ · MNQ

  • Futures — runs on it
  • Stocks — runs on it
  • Forex — runs on it
  • Crypto — runs on it

It compares the volume your feed reports with that market's own history, so it reads any market with volume. On forex and CFD feeds that volume is a count of ticks, so it reads activity rather than contracts.

What it reads

Bar volume, built on one 1-minute series of the same instrument that it adds itself, plus one background request for 20 sessions of 1-minute history merged across contract rolls; the last trade checks the data clock. No Tick Replay.
