DS Universe
DS Data Candles on a white NinjaTrader chart: candles painted teal, cyan, gray, graphite and magenta through a rally and a decline, with a "3.1x RANGE" caption under one bar and an "ABSORBED 2.9x" caption over a group of bars near the low.

Chart pictures are illustrations of the software, not a performance record. Futures trading carries substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor, and hypothetical or simulated results have inherent limitations that may differ materially from live trading.

Why you need it

Candles that read the bar for you. DS Data Candles repaints your candles so each one says three things at a glance: which way the trend reads agree, how strong the bar is, and whether volume stood behind it — measured against the same time of day on previous sessions, so a busy open is never mistaken for something unusual. The rare bar that is truly exceptional for its hour gets a small caption, and only for the two kinds of bar that held up when tested against what followed them.

How it works

Candles that read the bar for you.

DS Data Candles runs four trend reads at once — at the Regime period, 14 by default, and at 3, 5 and 10 times it — and how many of them agree sets each candle's color: Push, in cyan or magenta, for a bar that was itself a large, participated move; Trending, in teal or gray, while the trend reads agree; Chop, in graphite, with no agreement or agreement over a dead tape. Calmness — Responsive, Balanced or Steady — decides how long a strong or trending state holds before one quiet bar may soften it, never when the state is earned. The fill says whether volume stood behind the bar, against the same time of day on earlier sessions (20 by default, history the indicator requests itself): a solid body is backed; a drained body with its full outline is a wide, well-formed move that almost no volume went with for its hour, about one bar in 150 to 200 on NQ, ES and GC; a graphite body is absorbed — heavy volume for the hour that bought less range than busy bars usually do.

Two kinds of bar get a small caption, with a bracket over the bars it describes: RANGE (such as 2.4x RANGE), a bar far wider than this time of day usually delivers, on heavy volume, which was followed by a wider market in every period tested — NQ year by year from 2020 to 2026, ES, GC and CL; and ABSORBED (such as ABSORBED 3.1x), heavy volume for the hour that bought little range, followed by a quieter market on NQ in six of seven years and on ES. There is at most one caption every 15 minutes, and a plain volume spike is not captioned. Every caption was tested for direction as well and none held up, so none claims it: the color describes the bar that closed and is not a forecast. With the free DS Adaptive Price Line set to Follow candle color, the line wears the color painted on the live bar. Six values are published for the Market Analyzer and the Strategy Builder. On an instrument without usable volume the fills and captions switch themselves off, and direction and strength still work from price alone. Everything is decided when the bar closes: it does not repaint. It is part of DS Complete and is not sold on its own.

Before you buy

What it needs, where it runs, and what it is not.

Where it runs

Any market NinjaTrader chartsBuilt on NQ · ES · GC · CL

  • Futures — runs on it
  • Stocks — runs on it
  • Forex — runs on it
  • Crypto — runs on it

The color reads price on every market. The fills and captions need usable volume: without it they switch themselves off, the Log tab says so, and direction and strength still work from price alone.

What it reads

Price on the chart's own bars (four trend reads), and bar volume against the same time of day on earlier sessions, 20 by default — history it requests itself. Closed bars.

Good to know

DS Data Candles v3.1. It installs inside DSCompleteBundleSuite, the one DS Complete assembly: the name NinjaTrader shows in Tools → Remove NinjaScript Assembly.

DS Universe tools are charting and research software for educational and informational purposes. They are not investment advice and no output is a forecast or a guarantee of any result. Trading futures and other leveraged instruments carries substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor.
